Winemaking: Organic viniculture, Herbicide-free farming, Traditional hand picking, Use of indigenous yeast. Produced from typical Dao grape varieties, from a vineyard with 50 years old. Mixed red and white grape varieties, in the proportion of 80-20. Manual harvest at the end of September. The winemaking was done in “lagar” with the white and red grapes all mixed. Gentle tread on foot to crush the grapes on the first day. Natural fermentation (with no addition of yeast). In one thank we used dried chestnut blossom flowers - a few grams were added to the grapes during the treading), on the second tank we add some grams of sulfites. After the fermentation it was pressed and aged in stainless steel vat for 12 months – we used separated tanks to see the difference between the tank with sulfites and the tank with chestnut flowers. There was not a big difference so we decide to blend both tanks and bottle. No fining, no filtration. Very limited!

Taste: Light red. In the mouth it shows a lively character and a lot of freshness, typical of its youth, with very elegant tannins and a persistent and vibrant aromatic profile. Very personalized character resulting from the presence of a large variety of indigenous grapes. Perfect to pair with grilled fish, salads and pasta.

CASA DE MOURAZ - The winemaker of Planet Mouraz Chibu
Besides this red wine, see all CASA DE MOURAZ wines.

CASA de MOURAZ was created by Antonio Ribeiro and Sara Dionisio, who left their jobs in Lisbon and immersed themselves in what has become a family adventure, a version of sustainable viticulture and authentic winemaking. Mouraz, situated in the heart of Dão region, is António’s birth place, where his family has farmed vineyards in a holistic and ecological way for many generations.

This is also a place where the landscape and terroir is shaped by its people and geography, old and new vineyards coexisting with the pine, oak, chestnut and cork trees in a wild forest. This diversity is reveals itself in the personality and complexity of the CASA de MOURAZ wines, and reflects all their passion for this place.

The farm is spread over several parcels with different soils (granite and clay) and altitudes ranging from 140 to 400 meters. The most important indigenous grape varieties are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, Jaen, Baga and Água-Santa for the red wines and Malvasia-Fina, Bical, Cerceal, Encruzado and Alvarinho for the whites.

All the vineyards that are part of CASA de MOURAZ gained ECOCERT’s Organic certification in 1997. In 2006 we began working with Biodynamic preparations and practices and we are now doing the conversion with Demeter.

The work done by CASA de MOURAZ was quickly recognized internationally, becoming a member of the prestigious Biodynamic wine group “Renaissance des Appellations” since 2009.

In 2017 we created our PLANET MOURAZ project, the idea was to make wines “out of the box”, experimental wines from very old and abandoned vineyards and grapes, with no sulfites or minimal intervention.
